The American Red Cherry is a heavy hardwood that will darken and become richer in color over time while the Sycamore dish has a light pink speckled grain. Both types of soap dishes significantly extend the life of your handmade soap and have beautiful grains. The wide angled channels allow the water to quickly drain away from the soap, preventing it from sticking, and allowing it to dry quicker and last longer. 
 
Not only can a soap dish extend the life of a bar of soap, but did you know that you can also extend the life of your soap dish? Use your soap dishes in pairs - use one dish for 2-3 weeks, then wipe it clean with a damp cloth. Switch it out with another soap dish while allowing the first dish to completely dry out. Alternating wood soap dishes this way will prevent any mold and mildew from developing and growing on your dish and greatly extend the life of your dish.
